The 20th-ranked UMass softball team (39-11) will host Princeton (25-22) in the NCAA tournament on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. This is the 14th straight and 18th overall NCAA Tournament for the Minutewomen. Stanford (46-12) will face off against Lehigh (38-15-1) in the other regional game Friday at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be at the UMass Softball Complex. 2008 NCAA Softball Bracket
The Massachusetts Softball Team (39-11) will host a regional for the third straight season it was announced by the selection committee live on ESPNU Sunday evening. The Minutewomen are the No. 2 seed in the Amherst Regional and will face third-seeded Princeton (25-22) Friday at 5:00 PM. Stanford (46-12) is the top seed in the region and will play fourth-seeded Lehigh (38-15-1) Friday at 2:30 PM. The Cardinal are the No. 12 national seed. The regional (May 16-18) is double-elimination and runs through Sunday at the UMass Softball Complex. The winner of the Amherst Regional will match up with the winner of the College Station, Tx., Regional between No. 5 Texas A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Louisiana Tech and Auburn in the Super Regionals. Tickets for the Amherst Regional will go on sale through the UMass Athletic Ticket Office Monday morning at 9 a.m. EST. All-session general admission tickets are available for $27 for adults and $13 for UMass students and children 18 and under while all-session chair back seats are available for $30. Singe day tickets are available for $10 for adults and $5 for UMass students and children 18 and under while single day chair back seats are available for $12.
Four student-athletes from the University of Massachusetts Softball team have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region teams it was announced Wednesday in voting conducted by head coaches. Junior Brandice Balschmiter, sophomore Carly Normandin and freshman Lindsay Maroney earned first-team, honors while junior Whitney Mollica received second-team accolades. Each All-Region pick across the country is now eligible for NFCA All-American status which will be released during the Women's College World Series later this month.
Men's lacrosse's Sean Krygier and softball's Lauren Proctor were named the Spring Scholar-Athletes of the season. Krygier and Proctor received plaques at the weekly sports luncheon at the Campus Center on Wednesday commemorating their success on the field and in the classroom.
